The original Seattle Sounders poster on the left advertising the match with the Timbers showed up on my timeline again after the Timbers won. I thought I’d fix it for them to reflect the outcome. A little prophetic to choose Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots for the illustration, considering the antics on the field, especially post-match.

The Only Rivalry That Matters.
FC Cincinnati or FC Cascadia East?
First we gave them Fanendo Adi mid season. Next, they took Darren Mattocks as their first pick in the expansion draft, and later that day they picked up Kendall Waston in a trade. The day after Christmas we traded them Alvas Powell for some GAM. On January 3rd they made an offer for Ozzie Alonso, and a day later they’ve announced Pa-Modou Kah as an addition to their technical staff. FC Cincinnati is now being referred to as Cascadia East in some online discussions. They could do worse, that’s for sure. And they only have to beat Orlando to not finish last in the east, so they’ve got that going for them too. They could be interesting to watch.
Update: Looks like Minnesota is trying to outbid Cincinnati for Ozzie.
Yikes!
I was there. It was insane. It was a long, but joyful ride home that night. Even though it was 3am when I finally crawled into bed, it was still hard to fall asleep. Enjoy this crappy video of an amazing moment in the history of Timbers vs. Sounders Cascadia clashes.
Many Things have happened
But Seattle dropping a Deuce… or the Deuce dropping Seattle… Who knows how it went down, but Clint Dempsey has retired from professional soccer, mid-season no less. At least we know what happened with Caleb Porter.
Gross
I don’t know who made this. The one floating around Facebook has other “rivalry” teams switched. There are some guys I would never want to see in a Timbers uniform, like Dempsey, but Morris… that kids alright, but seeing Diego in a Sounders kit hurts my stomach. There’s a version floating around with some text that says Diego looks terri-bule in rave green…

Sounders Sloppy Seconds
Well that sucked. The Sounders winning the MLS Cup is the doggie doo icing on the crap cake that was the 2016 season. Absolutely zero shots on goal, but they win in the PK shootout. It’s as if Toronto won the popular vote but the Sounders weaseled in via the Electoral College. I knew I could count on The Nutmeg News to bring levity to the situation.

It’s Cup Day
It’s MLS Cup Day. What a difference a year makes.
Even if Seattle wins, it seems their first MLS Cup will be overshadowed by the Timbers having done it first. It’s not just me that thinks so!

I had not planned on posting about this, but it sort of naturally fits here. Leslie Jones is a divisive figure in comedy. People either love her or hate her. I had been warming to her recently, but last week’s appearance wearing a Sounders jersey during the closing credits of SNL has me reversing course. On second thought, she is a comedian, so maybe this was supposed to be funny.

I have suspected Alexi Lalas of having an anti-Timbers bias, but it’s possible he just doesn’t like Cascadia. Alexi’s third reason on why Toronto should win today is something I think we all can agree on.

You can be forgiven if you don’t know what this has to do with the Timbers. If you’re wondering, read on.
The Seattle Rickroll Tifo
I went to the Seattle away match last Sunday. Not a lot of positivity to take home from such a decisive loss, except for the overwhelming failure of the ill conceived ECS tif0. Normally, matters of tifo quality are shouting matches between the supporters groups directly involved. However, in this case, Seattle’s Rickroll tifo has met with universal ridicule, even outside the MLS. Even if you agree with the ECS statement, there’s no denying that the execution was poor. MLS wants to promote the biggest/best rivalry in the league in order raise TV ratings and increase interest in the league? How dare they! This is the second Seattle tifo flub this season, if you’re keeping track.

Even in Preseason
A win or a loss in preseason pretty much means squat, but any win over Seattle is enjoyable.
