Or rather, we’re back in the U.S. Open Cup! MLS sacrificed U.S. Open Cup participation in favor of the The Big Cash Grab™ that is Leagues Cup. While I was origianly against Leagues Cup, that was before we actually played in it. Now I look forward to playing against Liga MX sides in Leagues Cup. It’s pretty awesome. It would be a lot more awesome if we didn’t pull Club America in the group stage 2 years in a row… but I digress. We’re back in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup! It’s about freaking time. I never understood why MLS doesn’t promote or engage with the Open Cup. It is after all, the oldest (and one of the few) national tradition in our nation’s soccer history. How could they not respect it? Oh I dunno, maybe because they couldn’t control it and maximize the profits from it? I don’t know why the owners changed their minds, but I’m glad they did. Now it’s our duty to support those matches.
